Artist's Comments

Yep, that's right - yet another concept art work. I was actually giggling to myself when I was making this one...

:iconvravage: told me a couple of times I was a good character designer, and well, I'm starting to believe him! :3

Commission from :iconranneko:, here is Bel, character originating from the same universe as Alexis (whose concept art was posted not so long ago). You can see her casual and battle outfit, the second image picturing her using her powers to shape "ribbons" from her outfit to use as weapons. She can wrap those around her arms to create "shields", while also making their tips and edge razor-sharp for offensive purposes (see below for details).

Here's the character info as I received it (slightly edited):

----------

Name: Bel
Formal Title: Goddess of Balance, probationary
Height: 179 cm (~5'11'';)
Weight: 54kg (~120lbs)
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Grey
Age: Unrevealed

Personality and outlook

Bel is curious, she likes to take things apart and sometimes gets them all the way back together. She doesn't see advanced magic as being indistinguishable from science or advanced science being indistinguishable from magic; to her they are the same thing. She believes that her magic is limited by the laws of the conservation of energy and that recursive programming is easy if you have enough faith in it.

Bel is prideful, when she thinks she is right, she'll let you know it. Bel is scared, even with only half a soul, does this mean she can now die?

Background Overview

A sleeper running for his life, awakens as he is cut down by Kasumi's forces. His final act was to try and hide from his pursuers, which succeeds, in a way. A Goddess and Demon, trapped together for
eternity are released from their prison as the sleeper's soul is split between the two sleeping beings. The demon and goddess awake, stripped of most of their powers and with new orders: both are to serve and cooperate as agents of heaven and hell in the upcoming conflict, as only beings with souls may be involved (or sleepers or however the two 'higher' powers are being kept out of pulling a deus ex machina).

Powers - Teleportation / Gate Use

Bel is able to link two locations through a tear in space. At the start of the timeline Bel would be limited to residential sized doorways only as they symbolize the transition from one distinct location to another while providing a convenient bounding area for the effect. This limitation is mostly psychological but then Bel's perception is the driving force behind the success of the linking, if she doesn't believe it's possible, it isn't for her. As the timeline progresses Bel would, as her skills improve, be able to use bigger doorways (NASA has a doorway 50 stories tall at the Kennedy Space Centre for those keeping track), holes in walls and eventually just stick a knife in the air and rip a hole in space. (The last would be bad, what's to keep the tear from getting bigger? I could come up with an excuse for it to work but she wouldn't be aware of it and wouldn't want to use an unbound portal even if I could justify a reason and so for now I won't.)

Powers - Clothing

Low level intelligent clothing made of mono-filament fibers of magical origin. At first Bel is able to change the lettering on her t-shirt, then as her control improves she can mimic entire uniforms or costumes. Later simple tools like sharp edges, screw drivers and lock picks can be formed (She'd still have to know how to pick a lock). In the final stages multiple 8' long rope-daggers or flat ribbons with razor-sharp edges can be formed and controlled.

Powers - Magic

Though not as strong as many other magic users on the station, Bel specialized in support and enhancement magic.
Bel can convert her own energy to perform magic (exhausting) or can draw it in from around her (magically 'noisy' to the adept, like the sound of bacon cooking). She goes on sugar binges during times of high spell use to keep her energy up but crashes afterwards. She is subject to exhaustion from her casting if she's drawing from her own reserve.

Skills - Work & Education

Bel appears to be fairly well educated in engineering principles, enough to get a job as a technician on the station in the engineering department. She does however get some things very wrong as the station uses a strictly science based engineering and the magical principles she takes for granted in her knowledge of fully integrated science/magic systems don't totally apply. She has been forbidden from working on any subsystem she hasn't been cleared for on pain of KP duty for a month.

Skills - Fighting

A little bit of this and that and a whole lot of schoolyard no-such-thing-as-dirty fighting. Not a force to be reckoned with.
